Aupa!
This weekend was a whole studysession... I had to get started with my two trabajos, one is about the grave economic crisis 1973 and after, which I write on my own. The other is about quality management, which I write together with Olaia and Juan, two basque companeros. After developing a question sheet we went today to the city of Vitoria, 1 h south of Bilbao to interview the Director of the Urkide High School, a catholic institute that won prizes for its innovative cuality management strategies. The success of the school, I could tell, lays in the great leadership qualities of the director. Afterwards, Juan showed us around the casco Viejo of Vitoria, a small city that is No. 1 in inhabitants' living satisfaction.
Yesterday I've started taking lessons in Euskera - basque language.
Mikel, my flatmate, who himself takes classes, but on a high level, teaches me every or every other day.

Weihnachtszeit
After a two great weekends I'm back to tell you just how I'm alive!
My parents were here, we had two great days of intensive Casco Viejo (Old Part) exploring.
Last weekend then i went to Barcelona with my flatmate Ella! We stayed at her friends in a bellas-artes-student-apartment in just 100 m distance from the famous Sagrada Familia, the impressive basilica constructed by Antoni Gaudí! On Friday i explored the main touristic destinations in that great city. At night I went to the AIR-concert! It was just great!!! It was taking place in the world famous discoteca RAZZMATAZZ, were i spent the rest of the night. In my opinion the best disco i've seen so far.
On Saturday there was a Paella contest between the Valencian and Barcelonian friends of Ella which was nice because i was to eat it and give my opinion. Very cool.
On Sunday I lost my camera in the plane. It was just 2 weeks old. That sucks. I hope they're still gonna find it. Even more, there were all the great pictures of BCN on the camera.
Back in Bilbao, I'm dedicating my time to working on my two trabajos of 10 pages each, and, which gives me more joy, surfing.
Right now we have december but nevertheless in the daytime we had almost 20 degrees and sun the last days. combined with the ruler-shaped-breaking waves it's just fun. Only the water is getting freezing. This week there has been a tremendous storm in the north atlantic ocean, which has produced powerful swell that produces huge waves in the Biscay Bay, which the beaches of Bilbao and it's proximities are facing. For sunday we have predictions of 8 meters swell. Mmhhh. But don't worry, I'm not getting in those waves. There are always spots that are protected from that huge swell and give nice small waves.
But to give you an idea of big wave surfing that attracts the world elite of surfing pros and that is taking place just at the beaches of Bilbao, take a look here:

Last night I we had a birthday dinner for Lorena, Mikel's girlfriend in our apartment. After hours of practice Mikel and I performed his song in Euskera - basque language - and it was a relaxed evening in our flat.

Hello everybody!
That was a great week. Camille was here from Wednesday until today, we had a very relaxed and wonderful time. After sit in at Giulia and Sarah's, we went to Tici and Nina's Birthdayparty and afterwards to the Azkena.
Was a funny night.
This upcoming week I'll dedicate to the waves and university. I'll have to do 2 trabajos, Hausarbeiten, + 1 presentation until XMas...
I got my new camera now so I have new pictures uploaded on my picasa photo page.

Great weekend!

This weekend was very relaxed. On Wednesday we went to different Halloweenparties until 7 in the morning. Thursday and Friday I relaxed a lot, and Saturday night we went to the Brazilian’s (Tici, Nina & Edi) apartment, which was great. Nina’s birthday was to take place on Sunday, so Marco from

Todo bien!
Hola,
contrary to my belief, everything would get a little calmer over the weeks, there are everyday in the week and the weekend lots of things to do. The last week I was practically every free minute of the daytime in the water improving my surfing skills (which are still certainly rather poor, compared to the crazy local surfers that twist and rip and jump the waves - "..it's ridiculous..." ), while during nighttime there are also good things to do: what they call here fiesta. To be honest, the famous "Erasmusparties" all end up to be quite similar and we are beginning to look for other ways to spend the night, of which there are many. I love the relaxed way the basque people start into their nights. With my "cuadrilla", my friends, a slightly still changing group of ~5-15 people, we have established a nice form to adjust to that form of diversion: one or two persons invite the others to their appartment to have dinner. Afterwards we start with a slow transition, until we go out to the discos or bars of Bilbao. The later we arrive in the bars, the better cause until 3 'o clock, there is only the usual coffee-drinking ambiente in the bars.

Today they put christmas-lightchains in my street in Casco Viejo. Thats not good.
I don't feel like Christmas walking to the Metro station heading for the beach...

Weekend
Hey.
I decided to write my blog in english from now on, due to the tremendous demand from my international friends...:-)
I've spent a wonderful week with Camille in Bilbao and it's outskirts. On Friday we went to a a soccer match in the stadium of San Mamés here in Bilbao: Athletic Bilbao vs. AC Milan!! It ended up 0:0, Milan played rather poor, Athletic did their best... Besides going to the municipal beach of Sopelana we went to Mundaka on sunday to see the semifinals and finals of the billabong pro surf world championship. kelly slater got his ass kicked in the semifinals, so we saw taj burrow battle bobby martinez. Bobby made it finally after a great performance in small conditions in the world's most famous left breaking wave... afterwards we went to a small beautiful island connected to the land only by a small path with a couple hundred of stairs...

My professor in karlsruhe finally agreed on my changed study plans, which means i can go to clases now without having to fear that it's todo por nada...

Hey,
die Erasmusparty war sehr geil, das Cafe Teatro Mistyk war rammelvoll und alle hatten Spaß! Gestern abend waren wir bei den Brasileños in der Wohnung und haben gesungen und gelacht, das ist ein herrliches Volk!!!
Dieses Wochenende muss ich mal wieder chillen. Machen gleich ne Radtour durch die alrededores, die Umgebung von Bilbao und gehen dann mal wieder an den Strand, weil die Sonne heute mal wieder so richtig scheint!

Zervus...!!!
Hallo.
Bin jetzt in der zweiten Uniwoche.
Meine Kurse habe ich immer noch nicht ganz festgelegt, nachdem ich heute in einem Kurs war, in dem nur Kinder saßen. Ne, der Prof war halt etwas verplant und die ganzen Studenten haben sich die ganze Zeit darüber amüsiert. Den Kurs werde ich also kicken. Alle anderen Kurse sind echt sehr interessant und ich verstehe auch ein bischen, um was es geht... Bis Freitag muss ich mich auf die Kurse festlegen.
Seit einer Woche war ich nicht mehr am Strand. Hatte mit der Uni viel zu tun und habe zusammen mit einem anderen Deutschen, Steffen, mit dem ich auch surfen gehe, für kommenden Donnerstag, also eine Party in einer Bar/Kleindisco organisiert. Unsere Idee ist es, keine reinen Erasmusparties zu machen, sondern Erasmusstudenten mit Basken in einen Topf zu schmeißen und zusammen zu feiern. Mal sehen, was also Donnerstag so geht...
Seit heute ist in Mundaka, der berühmtesten linksbrechenden Welle von Europa die Billabong Pro Competition. Am WE werden wir da mal, wenn die Wellen stimmen, mit einer kleinen Koalition hinfahren. Irgendwann muss ich noch mal Uni machen, oder?
Ach ja, kurz noch was zu meinen Mitbewohnern.
Ella kommt aus Valencia, macht Mediendesign, was praktisch ist, weil sie unsere Flyer und poster designt. Sie ist echt sehr lustig und wir verstehen uns richtig gut. Ceci und Mikel kommen aus dem Baskenland. Beide waren gerade für Entwicklungsprojekte 3 Monate in Zentralamerika. Mikel ist der absolute chiller, und das meine ich auch so :-)...
Ceci ist eine kleine sehr liebenswerte Baskin (wirklich sehr baskisch!), die immer voll aufgedreht ist. Super lustig alle zusammen. Insgesamt ist die WG ein total geiler Mix. Wir kochen zusammen und machen auch alle irgendwiewas zusammen. Wenn ich abends (zweimal in der Woche hab ich VL bis 20.30) von der Uni nach Hause komme, weiß ich schon, dass in der Calle Somera, die Nebenstraße, die gleichzeitig die beste Pintxosstraße in Bilbao ist, mindestens einer meiner Homies mit ein paar Leute in ner Pintxosbar hockt und ein Zurrito, ein kleines Bierchen, und Pintxos genießt.
Dieses WE will ich mal wieder Bilder reinstellen.

Sommer!!!

Also es wird hier irgendwie jeden tag wärmer...!
War die letzten drei Tage den ganzen Tag am strand zum surfen und chillen am strand. jeden abend ist auch irgendeine party oder ein kochabend.
Heute nachmittag ist ein konzert-und surffestival an einem strand in der nähe, da gehen wir auch alle hin. muss jetzt wieder an den strand. Werde morgen oder so mal wieder neue fotos reinstellen.

Moin liebe Leute.
Nach einer Woche in Bilbao melde ich mich nun mal wieder.
Ich habe endlich nach langer Suche am letzten Freitag eine Wohnung gefunden!
Sie liegt mitten in der Altstadt und vorallem wohne ich, anders als die meisten Erasmusstudenten, mit 3 Spaniern, das heisst, 1 Basken, 1 Baskin und einer Valencianerin, zusammen.
Als ich am letzten Samstag eingezogen bin, hat mich die Freundin meines Mitbewohners Mikel ins Ferienhaus in Cantabria, 1 1/2 h von hier, eingeladen. Wir waren sechs Studenten, ich der einzige Deutsche ziemlich begrenzten Spanischkenntnissen. Das Wochenende war ein ziemlich cooler Einstieg in mein Auslandsjahr, die Bilder hab ich auch mal hochgeladen (oben ist der Link). Die Landschaft hier ist einfach wunderbar.
Zur Zeit mache ich jeden morgen Sprachkurs, morgen gehen wir gleich danach nach Sopelana an den Strand!
Mit den Erasmusleuten verstehe ich mich auch sehr gut, es sind wirklich ein paar coole Leute dabei! Es ist echt herrlich zu sehen, wie groß die kulturellen Unterschiede innerhalb von Europa sind. Außer den Europeans sind hier aber noch sehr viele Brasilianer, die auch gut mitfeiern :-)
Ich hoffe, Euch allen geht es auch so gut wie mir und ich höre mal von Euren Erlebnissen!

Moin.
Bin gut in Bilbao angekommen und seit Montag auf einer sehr intensiven Wohnungssuche.
Jeden morgen findet ein wirklich guter Intensivspanischkurs statt, anschließend fahre ich den Rest des Abends bis nachts durch die Stadt und schaue mir Wohungen an.
Ich werde aber noch ein paar Tage weitersuchen, schließlich wohne ich dann auch ein Jahr in der Wohnung.
Bilbao gefällt mir sehr gut. Die Stadt hat viele Seiten und ist trotzdem noch überschaubar.
Das Wetter ist ein Traum, ich muss also schnell eine Wohnung finden, um dann endlich an den Strand fahren zu können!!!
